METRI IC-UPF Ultra Pro-Fixed Clamp-On Ultrasonic Flow Meter

A permanent clamp-on transit-time flow meter with a 1:2500 turndown, a 16 MB timestamped datalogger and waveform diagnostics. AC or DC powered. Made in Britain.

SKU IC-UPF

  • 1:2500 turndown — sees night flow, seasonal HVAC and batch trickle
  • 16 MB timestamped datalogger, intervals from 1 to 255 seconds
  • Waveform signal diagnostics on a permanent meter, not just a strength bar
  • 85–265 V AC or 7–24 V DC at 10 W — remote and solar sites are viable
  • Heat flow, batching and product identification built in

Buy this one if…

You want permanent non-invasive metering with a serious data record and a very wide flow range.

1:2500 turndown — the spec to look at twice

Compare that to the 100:1 on most portables. Turndown is the ratio between the highest and lowest flow a meter can measure credibly, and it decides whether one instrument covers your whole operating envelope or whether you are blind at the bottom of it.

  • Night flow. A distribution main runs hard at 7am and nearly still at 3am. The 3am number is the one that tells you whether you have a leak — and it is the number a narrow-turndown meter cannot see.
  • Seasonal HVAC. A chilled water loop in a Houston August and the same loop in January are different orders of magnitude.
  • Batch processes. Full flow, trickle, stop, repeat.

A meter that goes blind at low flow does not tell you it has gone blind. It reports zero, or it reports noise, and both look plausible.

Two questions, one instrument

The 4–20 mA answers what is this pipe doing right now. The 16 MB timestamped log answers what has this pipe been doing. When a process engineer asks why the yield dropped last Thursday, the second question is the one that gets answered.

Product identification

Genuinely unusual on a meter at this price: the IC-UPF can distinguish fluids by their acoustic properties. Water and oil have different speeds of sound, and a meter that measures speed of sound can tell you which one is going past. It is why METRI calls out oil dewatering as an application.

Specify the power supply when you order

85–265 V AC or 7–24 V DC. This is not field-changeable. The DC option is what makes remote and solar-powered installations possible — get it wrong and you have a mains-only instrument at a site with no mains.

This instrument is specified into the following industries. Each page covers the specific measurement problems, the fluids involved, and what usually goes wrong.

Is this the right instrument for your line?

Send us pipe size, pipe material, wall thickness, lining, fluid, and how much straight run you have. A Seztec application engineer will confirm the fit — or tell you it is the wrong instrument, which happens and which we would rather say before you buy.
